Customer laptop screen was severely cracked following an accidental drop. Important accounting data and personal documents needed immediate migration to a backup SSD prior to full screen panel replacement.
The Technical Challenge
The customer required urgent access to unbacked-up financial spreadsheets stored on a damaged Lenovo ThinkPad laptop with an entirely black, shattered 15.6" IPS display. The backlight was broken, preventing any on-screen navigation, and an upcoming tax deadline made fast data extraction critical.
Solution Implemented
Our mobile computer technician arrived at the customer's East London premises equipped with diagnostic testing gear and OEM replacement display panels:
- Safe External Display Diagnostics: Connected the laptop to an external HDMI test monitor to verify GPU functionality and ensure the motherboard had sustained no shock damage.
- Write-Blocked Data Migration: Extracted the internal M.2 NVMe SSD and performed a secure 120GB clone onto the customer's external backup drive using hardware write-blockers to prevent file corruption.
- OEM Panel Replacement: Disassembled the laptop bezel, carefully unlatched the 30-pin eDP display ribbon cable, and installed a brand-new factory-grade 15.6" Full HD matte IPS screen.
- Thermal Inspection & Calibration: Cleaned internal heatsink fans, reapplied non-conductive thermal paste, calibrated display brightness profiles, and verified Windows 11 system integrity.
